Palolem, Agonda and Cavelossim are not interchangeable. Palolem is compact and social, Agonda is spacious and retreat-like, and Cavelossim combines a wide beach with larger resorts and the Sal River.
Palolem: variety within walking distance
Palolem suits first-time visitors and mixed groups. Restaurants, shops, boat trips and accommodation are close together. Canacona station is about 3 km away.

Agonda: quiet and long walks
Agonda is longer and more open. Goa Tourism describes it as peaceful and warns visitors not to swim too far out. Facilities are more spread out.

Cavelossim: larger resorts
Cavelossim and Mobor have wide beaches, established resorts and river-meets-sea scenery. Goa Tourism places Cavelossim village about 18 km from Margao and notes bus and auto connections.
